The two rivals Manchester United and Manchester city are in a transfer war over Rochdale’s U-18 defender Luke Matheson
The teenage, who made his league debut at just 15, is attracting a stream of interest from across the Premier League.
Matheson would go on to be awarded man of the match during the 2-1 victory against Bury and his stock has grown ever since.
Given his age and potential, the right back is already rated at £10m.
The teenage is currently undertaking his A-level studies, taking classes in History, Psychology and Sociology.
The big hitters from Manchester who are currently gearing up for a head-to-head New Year scrap over the youngster’s signature.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw the qualities of £10million-rated Matheson first-hand earlier this season when he scored at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup.
That performance alone was enough to convince him that Matheson, who only turned 17 at the start of the month, has the potential to play at the highest level.
Luke Matheson who scored Rochdale’s equaliserat Man utd last month, also caught the attention of neighbours City – with their manager, Pep Guardiola, equally impressed.
Speaking after he scored at Old Traford, Matheson said: “Obviously it was a bit weird seeing all my mates at first but they were just over the moon for me, whether they were United fans or not,” he said.
“A few of them are Reds and they watched the game but they said they didn’t care that it was against them, they were just made up for me.
“I’ve had nothing but positive comments which was great.”
